Patrick Cadigan:

And one of the things that Meghan and I have been conversing about behind the scenes was we decided that you know, what we one of the main reasons that we're here right is to share resources. So we're coming up with another segment, when we're going to call it Well, That's Helpful. So I get to dive in for the first one, I'm cheating because normally what we did, what we agreed to was that we were going to do one, one resource, right, we're going to introduce it, we're going to talk about it. But I'm effectively going to do two and there is a really good reason why. So the first one is going to be from our website, right Post-Secondary Transition.com. If you start off at the very top of the tab that says Start Here, under that, you will have Acronyms & Definitions. And that's going to give you a whole host of terms, and definitions of all of the things that we're essentially talking about, or I shouldn't say all, but I will say many. Now, as the second one, there was one of our listeners had actually thrown this out as a resource to us. So thumbs up to Remy Nirschl, thank you for that. She pointed me towards the Service Coordination website. And they have their own Glossary of Terms. So this one is going to be far more extensive. But it is really easy to navigate and really helpful. So there will be a link in the show notes for both our acronyms and definitions, but then also from service coordination and their Glossary of Terms. So I feel like that that's going to be really useful for the family. So hopefully, you guys can click on those links and find something and find something out of it. So like last time, we're going to do another segue, we're gonna go into Well, That's Helpful. And that is a resource that we have found that either has been recommended to us or that we want to recommend out that we think that families will find useful last week, I gave out my recommendation, Meghan, this week at you, what do you got for us?

Meghan Smallwood:

Awesome. Well, this resource, we've actually had workshops with them, and they've been super helpful. The Parents Place of Maryland, and their website is www.ppmd.org. They cover a whole bunch of different areas. But specifically for transition. They have a variety of topics resources for the transition topic, if you go to their website under the resources tab, and on the side they have where you can check transition, you'll see a large number of documents, both in English and in Spanish. So they provided webinars and fact sheets for a variety of transition topics such as SSI supported decision making, using employment, self directed services, think college and health care transition, which was a workshop that they had provided for us for a few years too. So I definitely recommend checking out the Parents Place of Maryland.

Patrick Cadigan:

And as usual, there is going to be a link in our show notes to that resource. But before we let everybody go, we wanted to jump in and share our one of our helpful resources for our Well That's Helpful. So for this week, we wanted to share out the ThinkCollege.net. Now think college provides information on post secondary education programs for students with intellectual disability, but this is for around the country like this is for anybody who needs it. The site has tons of information and links to support parents when trying to look for information about colleges, and what they offer for students with disabilities from their own website. They say that because these programs use an alternative admission process, the standard things often asked for in college admission process, like a diploma test scores, grades do not apply. But things like desire to go to college, wanting to live more independently and get a job after college will be important. So this is a great resource for families and we wanted to share it out if you didn't already know about it.

Meghan Smallwood:

Yeah, and I think it's a great option for our families with students on a certificate track who really would like for their young adults to have that college experience at the same time. Get that those functional skills and prepare for life beyond school.

Patrick Cadigan:

Well, I will tell you what it's a nice segue into our Well That's Helpful segment because playing off of this week's conversation, our resource, it can actually be found on our YouTube channel in our playlist section. There will be a link in the show notes to that it's a series of videos posted by the Howard County Autism Society. So we want to thank them for that. These videos discuss SSI with the gentleman who many in our community will know. Mr. Michael Dalto. Mr. Dalto is considered the expert when it comes to SSI. And we've had more than a few families mentioned his name and the expertise he brings to the conversation. So we think that this playlist is really worth looking at. The series is broken down into four parts. And it's obviously good information because the series itself collectively has been viewed over 25,000 times. So we really do feel like that this is going to be helpful for families.

Meghan Smallwood:

Yeah, he is very, very knowledgeable. Awesome. All right. Well, thank you, again, everyone, for joining us. As always, we really, really encourage that you follow the information from This and our other conversations that we've had in our show notes. Make sure to like follow and please share out the podcast with anyone that you know who might be getting ready to go through the transition process is in the midst of it even has gone through it and just wants to you know, brush up on information or have anything to share with us. Check out our YouTube channel, we have videos of all our conversations, including doing some of the legwork for you by curating videos of topics that revolve around transition. We've created playlists that cover guardianship, alternatives to guardianship ABLE account and still more to come. So be sure to subscribe there as well. And of course, check out our website, which is chock full of information around the transition process. You'll find our contact information there and we love hearing from you all. So please go to www dot post secondary transition.com And I think that's all I got.

Patrick Cadigan:

All right. We look forward to talking with you guys again.

Meghan Smallwood:

All right. Thanks, everyone.

Patrick Cadigan:

Bye bye.

Meghan Smallwood:

Bye.
